The deadline redefining machineguns to include bump-stock style devices has arrived, and federal courts have not intervened.
On March 25, 2019, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit denied a request that would have prevented the new ATF Final Rule, also known as the “bump stock ban,” from going into effect.
The Court noted in its order denying relief that “[t]he government concedes that the plaintiffs will suffer irreparable harm if the implementation of the Final Rule is not enjoined. However, the public interest in safety supports the denial of a stay pending appeal.” An emergency request to stop the ban from going into effect was sent to the Supreme Court of the United States, but the Court declined to intervene.
The Final Rule amends the ATF’s definition of machinegun to include bump-stock style devices. This new and amended definition directly contradicts the definition of machinegun as written by Congress, and the interpretation of the law by the ATF under the Obama administration.
As of March 26, 2019, it is a federal felony offense to possess a bump stock. The Final Rule has no provision to grandfather or register devices already owned. Additionally, the grace period to surrender a bump stock to the ATF has passed, meaning your only option at this point would be to destroy all devices in your possession. Further, there is no provision for any compensation for the economic loss of a destroyed or surrendered bump stock.
The ATF has provided bump stock destruction instructions that will render the device incapable of being readily restored to its intended function. Failure to comply with this new rule is a federal felony, punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison and up to a $250,000 fine for each bump stock in your possession.

What a load of horse *****!!
I don’t own a bump stock and have never wanted one for myself, but I hold the constitution including its protection of property rights in the highest regard. It’s at the very least an impertinent and immoral government that would presume to deprive citizens of property without just compensation. This smells like theft, no more and no less.
Personally I think bump stocks are stupid and a novelty like plastic chicken that crap jelly beans.
However it is unacceptable to pass a law ANY law that automatically incriminates law abiding citizens.
One bump stock which that cannot prove was ever used in the commission of a crime is used as an excuse to incriminate 500,000 law abiding citizens.
How did this help anything?
A Chevrolet was used to plow into a herd of protesters, did they ban all Chevrolets?
And folks that is how stupid that action was.
This law turned 500,000 law abiding citizens into criminals with it’s signing and DID NOTHING to stop any real criminals.
I bought a new AR about 2 or 3 years ago and it came with the factory sock and I do not know if it is what some call a bump stock does anyone have a picture of it so I will know if I have one.
This will be a good test to see how many people will cave in to the gun banners of the U.S. Please keep us informed on how this is proceeding.
I have a 9mm rifle and the stock looks like this. Does this mean I have to destroy my rifle?
This is the beginning of firearms confiscation. Next will be magazines of more than 10 rounds capacity. It will become easier and easier to ban accessories and finally specific firearms. It will all be done without repeal of the Second Amendment.
Oh well. We’ll obey the law about as well as the leftist in office do.
What happened to “Ex post Facto” laws ??????
I am sick of having my liberty stripped from me a fraction at a time. Like the death of a thousand cuts!
The Texas constitution sums it up well!!
“It has demanded us to deliver up our arms, which are essential to our defense, the rightful property of free men and formidable only to a tyrannical government”
bump stock or not, it’s are right to bare arms. It’s an injustice to the Constitution and the America people.
Rebel through civil Disobedience!!
An Unconstitutional law is NO law!!
This ruling is 150% correct. The bump stock was invented as a “work around” device to turn an ordinary semi-automatic weapon into a fully-automatic weapon. The inventor violated Title II of the Federal Gun Control Act, and the court was correct in its ruling. Anyone purchasing a bump stock has violated Title II of the Federal Gun Control Act. The punishments in the ruling? I don’t know enough about the original law to comment.
I am not an advocate of bump stocks BUT any item legally purchased by an individual should not be confiscated, caused to destroy ,o r made to get rid of without the govt compensating the person for his loss.
Instant fellon where none existed before.
Infringement by legislation, supported by the judiciary, proceeds incrementally.
Evidently inalienable rights no longer mean what it once meant.
Republics die to thunderous applause.
One can make a black rifle work like a bump stop by lowering the rifle to your waist and putting your finger through your belt loop onto the trigger. It’s on Youtube. Now the government will ban belt loops!
I would like to know how a”bump stock changes a semi-automatic weapon into a fully-automatic weapon? Its an illegal law just as the Federal Gun Control Act was an illegal law!
More people die each day from drunk drivers or texting while driving than the number of people killed (allegedly) from the bumpstock/concert incident. There’s no 10 years in federal prison and up to a $250,000 fine for either of those illegal activities. And they’re not banning cars or bars or liquor stores. Another small freedom removed from the sheepizens of the US. The cold war is not over. It never ended. We are slowly being converted from the inside. It shall come to pass that we will have to kill our neighbors and friends in order to preserve our god given rights. Even though, at that time, they will not exist on paper. Only in our hearts. To do evil things is bad. To stand by and watch and do nothing is even worse. God bless America.
I heard you must shoot a lot of ammo just learning how to use it. That was enough to turn me off to it.never seen one other then a picture I dont own a Ar-15 anyway so
No loss for me.
Feel bad that people where not compensated for a product purchased legally now our goverment just takes it at will. Is this just the start of things to come because of no resistance by honest citizens fear of prosecution.
Article 1, Section 9 of the U.S Constitution prohibits “Ex Post Facto” laws. Why is no one bringing this up? Also, why did the NRA,of which I am a member, not object to the inclusion of the ignorance of the Ex Post Facto provision????? I fully support the NRA’s support of banning the bump stocks, but am completely dumbfounded as to why they supported ignoring the U.S Constitution as it relates to the prohibition of Ex Post Facto laws. AR-15’s are next in line. WISE UP, this is the beginning of the end.
