Let’s talk about dual purpose facilities that include both an educational facility and a house of worship. Can you carry your gun in that facility? Are you able to defend yourself there?

The answer is no, not in New Jersey.

DUAL PURPOSE FACILITIES

New Jersey is a state with a population of over 10 million people; yet, there are less than 600 “civilian” permits to carry a handgun. In essence, New Jersey prevents law-abiding citizens from defending themselves with a firearm outside of their homes.

Without a handgun permit, regardless of whether you have permission from the school authorities, merely possessing an unloaded and cased firearm at an educational facility is a felony level offense.

If you are one of the few with a permit to carry a handgun, you must possess express written permission from the school authorities to carry there.
